If you have a disability and need special things like braces, shoes, wraps, then you know what I am going through. It took my 5 years after diagnosis to find a pair of shoes I could wear. I tried tennis shoes, orthopedic shoes, orthopedic sandals, and a whole host of shoes especially made for sore feet. None of them worked. I wore Darco blue post-op shoes for years. They worked fine but they didn’t really hold up to someone who walked, even as little as I did.
When I found the Walkwell post-op shoe, it was a match made in heaven. They were open toe, fully adjustable across the top and at the heal, and my orthotics and braces fit perfectly. I have been wearing them exclusively for about 8 years.
And wouldn’t you know it, just 8 weeks before a wedding when I really need shoes, I can’t find them. The company doesn’t respond to emails and every store I tried says they are discontinued. I can’t even find a used pair on Ebay.
So now I am testing shoes again. I really didn’t want to put my feet through pain so close to a big family event, but I have no choice. I’ve order a pair of Healthy Essential open toe shoes. Keep your fingers crossed that they work!
